Audio & Video Requirements

Printable Version

What are the audio and video requirements to participate in a Wimba virtual classroom?
To view a video broadcast in Wimba you do not need to have a camera installed on your computer. However, if you want to take full advantage of the multi-way audio/video broadcast capabilities of Wimba, you will need to have a camera and preferably a headset microphone installed on your computer.

Using a headset (e.g., Plantronics DSP 500) with built-in microphone is highly recommended as boom-style microphones and external speakers tend to create feedback when more than one person tries to talk. Using a headset microphone is particularly important for presenters as the pick-up on built-in laptop microphones is generally poor.

Following is a select list of cameras that have been tested for use with Wimba. If you have a camera that is not listed, this does not mean it will not work but do test it first.
