The French Broad River drains 4,886 mi2 in North Carolina and Tennessee to the Gulf of Mexico via the Tennessee, Ohio and Mississippi Rivers.  The headwater is the 50-foot Court House Falls in Transylvania County, North Carolina and major tributaries include the Pigeon, Nolichucky, Mills, Davidson, and Swannanoa Rivers.  Several important Coweeta LTER research projects are located in the French Broad River Basin including measuring the effect of sedimentation on aquatic populations, the relation of climatic and site controls on forest form and function, and prospective research on the response-trajectory of streams to changing land-use patterns.  The French Broad Collection contains the core GIS data set for these various projects along with supporting instructions and metadata*.
