SITE CHARACTER
The Site Atelier AHPA, Anthroposystème et Hydrosystèmes Pyrénéens Atlantiques, is one of four sites ateliers within the Zone Atelier Adour-Garonne funded by the Environment, Life and Society Program of CNRS. 

COLLABORATION
Coweeta LTER and AHPA are collaborating on the comparative historical ecology of the Little Tennessee River Basin in western North Carolina and the Saison River Basin in the western Pyrenees on the French-Spanish border (right).  This collaboration emerges from the growing recognition within and beyond the LTER Network that knowledge of historical patterns and processes provide evidence of reference conditions needed to inform land management and guide the formulation of public policies.

INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH
The maturity of the LTER program in its third decade, the Decade of Synthesis, and the explicit research focus of The Environment, Life and Society Program on anthroposystems opens a new frontier for interdisciplinary research on the interaction between biophysical and socioeconomic systems.  Through this collaboration we seek to promote and enhance understanding of long-term phenomena across regional, national and oceanic boundaries.  Because the collaboration is based on a common set of research priorities and the need to solve similar methodological and conceptual issues, we are in a position to challenge the practice of science as usual.  We are thus advancing the synthetic objectives of contemporary science and fostering the development of the next generation of researchers.

The Saison Collection contains the core GIS data set for the various projects in our collaboration along with supporting instructions and metadata.
