Total operating receipts include receipts: for service; from sale of
merchandise (after deduction of returned goods and allowances) and of
meals and from fountain; and from other sources. Sales taxes, either
local, state, or federal, collected from the individual customers and paid
directly by the establishment to the taxing agency, are included in
receipts.
