Welcome to the Coweeta LTER Middle School Scientific Teaching Program!

With this program, we hope to convey our excitement for science as a dynamic investigation that uses evidence and engages a diversity of people in a collaborative process.

The Coweeta LTER Middle School Scientific Teaching Program provides a set of resources to help middle school teachers and their students achieve the scientific literacy goals of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study (SCS) for grade unifying concepts of science, strands, content goals, and objectives for the Life, Physical, and Earth sciences.

Silent wings and nocturnes...

Schoolyard Program LTER"In the Coweeta LTER Middle School Scientific Teaching Program, the scientific experience of a middle school student parallels the experience of a Coweeta LTER scientist working in an interdisciplinary, rather than discipline-specific, project that rests on unifying concepts and defined objectives." -Dr. Ted Gragson, Director.

Thus we have designed this program for Middle School students - 6th, 7th, and 8th grades - to ask questions, to think critically, to work with others, to derive abstract conclusions from concrete evidence, and to communicate their results.
